Recent form in all competition (last five matches): WWWWL
The Yellow Submarine were having an excellent form before suffering a defeat from Celta Vigo last weekend. Javier Calleja’s side were winning four straight games in all competition before going down 3-2 against Celta.
That defeat was a disappointment indeed, but Villareal are keen on making amends. Although Blaugrana are a tough side to beat, the home side will give their best shot.
Recent form in all competition (last five matches) :WWWWW
Blaugrana’s recent run of good form continue last weekend as they beat Espanyol 2-0. That result extending Barca’s current winning run in all competition which started after their goalless draw against Lyon on February 20th.
The Catalan giant are set keen on maintaining that positive run by defeating Villarreal. Another positive result will get Barca much closer to securing another La Liga title.
Calleja will have some injury concern ahead of this midweek tie as Jaume Costa, Llambrich and Triguero are all injured. Meanwhile, Bruno, Javi Fuego along with Gerard Moreno are still in doubt for Tuesday.
Up front, Villarreal are set to count on Carlos Bacca and Toko Ekambi’s duet. Veteran defender, Daniele Bonera, looked to be starting and leading that back line for the home side.
Valverde’s side are not free from injury as they will be missing Rafinha and Ousmane Dembele. Substitute goalie, Jasper Cillessen has improved his condition but remain doubtful.
Blaugrana will most likely continue to play Lionel Messi and Suarez up front. Meanwhile, Philippe Coutinho should also complete that attacking trio for Barca.
Head to Head Records:
The last five meetings between both teams have been dominated by Barca as they won four and drew one.
Their latest encounter at Villarreal happened on December 11, 2017, which ended in a 2-0 victory for Blaugrana.
Having to play away from home won’t trouble Barca as they remain dangerous even if they’re not playing at Camp Nou. The Catalan side are keen on securing the league title as soon as possible.
However, Villarreal won’t go down easily as they are determined to give their best shot. With both teams’ current form, the tie could be an interesting one, but Barca are still favorite.
Final Score: 1-2
