Ten Hag speaks about Harry Maguire, injury updates, winning Manager of the Month and Erling Haaland

Erik Ten Hag spoke in the press conference ahead of the game against Manchester City. Here is what he has to say.

Ten Hag backs Harry Maguire despite criticism

Harry Maguire, the star centre defender for Manchester United, was spotted limping following England’s 3-3 loss with Germany.

During the international break, Maguire faced off against Italy and Germany and received additional flak for contributing to the Germans’ two goals. Gareth Southgate’s devotion to Maguire has come under further scrutiny due to that performance.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag told reporters, “First of all, of course, I have to coach him, I have to support him.”

“But I support him because I have faith in him. Training and games during the time I worked with him throughout the preseason were fantastic—I believe I would even say excellent.”

“But I recognise the characteristics. He continued to train exceptionally well even after being cut from the team. More importantly, the quality was still present.”

“If you look at his career, he has almost 50 England caps. He has done great with Leicester and Man United, so it’s clear he has great potential. Then, he is the subject. We all in the locker room—players, coaches, and manager—have faith in him.”

“I told him that, I said. He can do it, I’m confident. He’ll turn this around. I genuinely do believe that.”

Martial and Rashford are back in training ahead of Manchester Derby

In preparation for Sunday’s Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have resumed training with Manchester United, increasing the likelihood that they will play some role in the crucial match.

Rashford and Martial’s availability to face Manchester City was questioned as recently as Thursday after it was revealed by The Times that neither had participated entirely in practice. But when Ten Hag spoke to the media on Friday, he shared a pleasant message.

“Anthony Martial has been working with the group all week. We are pleased with that, and Marcus Rashford also started training,” the United manager said.

Ten Hag reacts on winning the manager of the Month Award

Manchester United had a quiet month in September, but they still won both league games.
As a result, Marcus Rashford received Player of the Month after recording two goals and two assists in as many games. At the same time, Erik ten Hag was named Premier League Manager of the Month.

When questioned by reporters about earning Manager of the Month, Ten Hag responded, “What we achieved, we did jointly. It means we are in the right way.”

“There is much room for improvement. Therefore, we must work hard. We are moving the right way but still need more effort.”

Ten Hag dismisses Erling Haaland’s question

Erling Haaland, the league’s leading scorer with an astounding 11 goals in 7 games, is the focus of a significant portion of the pre-game conversation.

In light of this, reporters were eager to learn from Erik ten Hag how United intended to stop Haaland on Sunday. The manager was eager to clarify that the goal is to stop City as a whole, not just Haaland.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag informed reporters, “We don’t play against Haaland. We play against Man City.”

“We have faith in our ability. As a team we can defeat our adversaries if we work together as a team. We require that belief, and on Sunday, we require it much more.”
