Olivier Giroud has reportedly issued an Ultimatum to the Chelsea board regarding his situation at Chelsea. The forward is desperate for game time and has been struggling for that since the start of the new campaign. Giroud is yet to start a Premier League and Champions League game for Chelsea this season. Giroud needs to find a club where he can play as a first choice striker in order to secure his place in France’s squad for the Euro 2020. The 34 year old is still in demand by various clubs in the World. Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan and David Bekham’s Inter Miami are currently leading the race for the Chelsea target man.
Even as a second choice striker, Giroud has been exceptional for Chelsea. Since joining the blues in 2018, Giroud has appeared 95 times for them. He has also managed to score 29 goals and assist a further 14 times. Giroud was also vital in Chelsea’s Europa League truimph in 2018-2019, becoming the top scorer of the competition as well. Moreover, Giroud was also pivotal for Chelsea in the cramped second half of the Premier league last season which saw the frenchman bag 8 goals in 13 appearances in the tail end of the campaign. However, having fallen down as the third choice striker in the team, Giroud has submitted his transfer request the club. However, where should the Frenchman head, in order to increase his chances to play in the Euros next year.
David Bekham’s Inter Miami
Giroud could follow former team mate, Ganzolo Higuain’s footsteps to the MLS. Bekham will be more than delighted to have the World Cup winner play for him at Inter Miami who currently sit 10th in the league. Inter Miami had an underwhelming first season in the MLS and look to add more quality to the squad. The club sill surely like to have Giroud partner with Higuain in the front. However, a switch to the American League might promise the player game time bit it may not be the kind of game time he needs. Even at 34, Giroud is one of the best target man forwards in the world. His hold up play and link up play is world class and he can easily play at Europe’s top 5 league. A move to MLS might be lucrative but certainly not what Giroud needs right now.
Re-union with Conte at Inter Milan
Giroud joined Chelsea while Conte was still the blues boss. The due helped bring the FA Cup back to stamford bridge as well. However, even at Inter Milan, Giroud will be signed as a second choice striker to Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has been in sublime form and Giroud will not get as much game time as he would hope even at Inter. However, the move could still benefit the player given his current situation at Chelsea. Deschamps openly asked Giroud to leave Chelsea to save the tail end of his career and a move to Italy might do the trick.
Other potential destinations for the player
Olivier Giroud is still considered a top class striker. He might not be the fastest of all but he can still score for teams. Its possible that Giroud ends up staying at London only even after the January transfer window. However, this time playing for West Ham united. The hammers have shown interest in the player in recent times. A move to Lazio could also materialise as the Italian club have made enquiries for the player. Last but not the lease, Giroud might also favour a move back to France where many clubs will be delighted to have him as their striker. However, we will have to wait for a month to see where does the World Cup winner finally end up.
