Man United vs. Brentford Preview, Squad Report & Prediction

Manchester United welcomes Brentford to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, looking to end a three-game Premier League winless streak.

Team Form

Man United

On Sunday afternoon, Manchester United suffered a crushing defeat against Newcastle United, as they were outplayed, outclassed, and outmatched by their black and white counterparts.

The game was seen as a chance for Newcastle to seek revenge after their EFL Cup final loss to Erik ten Hag’s men, and they did not disappoint. In the second half, Joe Willock and Callum Wilson scored two vital headers that extended Man United’s recent run of poor form in the top flight.

As of Monday, Man United is out of the Champions League spots following Tottenham Hotspur’s draw with Everton. However, the Red Devils still hold their fate, with two games in hand over their competitors.

Furthermore, if Manchester United fails to score in their upcoming Premier League fixtures, it would be the first time in the club’s history that they have failed to score in four successive league games.

In a thrilling encounter between Brentford and Brighton, both European underdogs, they displayed their mettle on the field. Brentford took the lead three times, courtesy of Pontus Jansson, Ethan Pinnock, and Ivan Toney, but each time Brighton fought back to level the score.

Despite the pulsating match, Brentford’s seventh place was secured with a point, putting them above a struggling Liverpool side, albeit with one game more played.

Although they have only won two of their last seven Premier League matches, the Bees have lost just one of their last 16 games against relegation candidates Everton.

Squad Report

Man United

Before their recent defeat, manager Erik Ten Hag of Manchester United received a much-needed boost to his team, with four injured players returning to the squad. Raphael Varane, Marcus Rashford, Marcel Sabitzer, and Anthony Martial were welcomed back.

However, some key players like Alejandro Garnacho, Tom Heaton, and Christian Eriksen, who are all suffering from ankle injuries, remain sidelined, along with Donny van de Beek, who is nursing a knee injury. Furthermore, Casemiro, serving a four-match domestic ban, is also unavailable, limiting the manager’s options in the midfield.

Brentford is facing a few injury concerns, with Kristoffer Ajer and Keane Lewis-Potter unlikely to return to the field until the last few weeks of the season.

However, there are no fresh injury concerns following their recent game with Brighton.

Man United’s expected starting lineup:

De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Malacia; Sabitzer, Fred; Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial

Brentford’s expected starting lineup:

Raya; Mee, Pinnock, Jansson; Hickey, Jensen, Norgaard, Henry; Mbeumo, Toney, Wissa
