David De Gea is set to break another record at Manchester United. The Spanish veteran is set to make his 500th start for the club with him being at the club for over a decade. Ten Hag has praised the Spaniard on this āhuge achievementā.
DDG Record:
Sir Alex Ferguson first signed De Gea from Atletico Madrid for then British record fee of Ā£18.9 million for a goalkeeper. He was signed as Edwin van der Sarās heir, with Sir Alex Ferguson even missing a game to go sign the talented keeper.
Ten Hag has heaped praise on the keeper for his high standards and ability to lead when required. “It is fantastic. If you perform in 500 games for a club like Manchester United, that tells a lot about you. The talent, the personality ā so that achievement is huge and I really reward that, I value that, and I want to congratulate him [for] that,” the manager stated.
“He has one of the highest standards. He is pushing everyone every time, and to himself he does what he can, he gives 100 per cent, but that is also what we expect from him ā that is the demand. He is an experienced player, he is one of the leaders, so we have to show that to push the team, then you have to be the example by itself,” he added.
De Gea is currently the longest-serving player at United, but he enters the last 12 months of his contract. However, United have an option to trigger a 12-month extension, and the Spaniard is happy to accept such terms.
