Cristiano Ronaldo on his United exit
It was time for a “new challenge,” Ronaldo said in a statement on Tuesday. He also added that he “loved” the team and its supporters.
“We have decided to finish our contract early after talking with Manchester United,” said Ronaldo.
“I adore Manchester United and the supporters, and that won’t change. But now is the perfect time for me to look for a fresh challenge. I send my best wishes to the team for the rest of the season and the future.”
Ronaldo’s second spell at United
After leaving Juventus, Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford the previous season, and his homecoming was eagerly anticipated.
In his debut season, he scored 18 Premier League goals while making 30 appearances, but has found himself on the fringes since Erik ten Hag arrived at the Theatre of Dreams.
The former Real Madrid striker has only played in ten league games this season and has scored one goal.
The future of Ronaldo has been in question lately following an explosive interview he gave to Piers Morgan.
Ronaldo believed several senior figures attempted to oust him from the team over the summer.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner stated that Ten Hag was unrespectable and that some United employees were attempting to persuade him to leave.
Ronaldo provided more information on how he felt “betrayed” as his comeback to United went awry in the second segment of the full interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
