Celta Vigo 3-0 Rayo Vallecano Highlights
RC Celta de Vigo took a giant step towards safety with an impressive 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano, opening up a six-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.
Celta Vigo continued their impressive form, taking the lead through Santi Mina’s 20th-minute header, and the advantage was doubled just after the break by Nolito, who scored a stunning free-kick from 25 yards out, leaving the Rayo keeper no chance.
Rayo, hoping to secure their first European appearance in over two decades, almost found the net in the 11th minute as Florian Lejeune’s free-kick narrowly missed the target, and the defender was unlucky again in the 30th minute as his long-range effort was saved by IvĆ”n Villar.
Celta, who started the 25th round just three points above the relegation zone despite sitting in 12th place, stunned their visitors Rayo by scoring two goals within the space of 60 seconds in the second half, with Iago Aspas scoring the first goal by brilliantly finishing Javi GalĆ”n’s cross.
Celta quickly capitalized on their second goal from a VAR-assisted decision that overturned an offside call against Carles PĆ©rez, who appeared to be onside before PathĆ© Ciss’s own goal, and the second half’s excitement continued as Rayo’s RaĆŗl de TomĆ”s was unlucky to hit the woodwork with his shot.
Carvalhalās team secured their fifth La Liga win at the Estadio de Vallecas, while Rayo’s hopes of finishing in the top six suffered a blow as they failed to win in their last five league matches.
