Romania wins with Dennis
Dennis Man’s close-range header and Denis Alibec’s second-half strike sealed Romania’s dominant victory against an overwhelmed Andorra side during their EURO 2024 qualifying campaign at the Estadi Nacional.
In a dominant display, Romania controlled the game from the outset, with Andorra forced to defend and rely on counterattacks, while Romania’s Olimpiu Moruțan and Nicolae Stanciu’s dangerous runs kept the visitors moving the ball in the final third, leaving Andorra with an alarming lack of ideas, as expected from one of the lowest-ranked teams in the UEFA region.
After having a goal ruled out for offside, Romania eventually found the back of the net in the 35th minute through Dennis Man’s close-range header following Olimpiu Moruțan’s cross, giving them a well-deserved one-goal lead at halftime.
Despite a half-chance from Andorra’s Àlex Martínez early in the second half, Romania doubled their lead shortly after through a lovely through ball from Răzvan Marin to Denis Alibec, who finished with composure from the edge of the box, while Andorra’s Marc Rebés received two bookings in a short span and was sent off in the 61st minute.
With Andorra failing to pose any significant threat, Romania cruised to victory, marking a strong start for Eduard Iordănescu’s team, but with the three points considered necessary for their qualifying campaign, while Andorra may take some consolation from the narrow margin of defeat, their path to qualifying will only become more challenging with a trip to Kosovo in their upcoming match.
